Fushimi Inari
Fushimi Inari is probably the most popular temple to visit in Kyoto. Even though it easily made it to the top of my own list and there was a certain aesthetic that attracted myself to it, somehow nothing clicked beforehand that it was the IT temple to go to or that maybe the entire rest of the world might feel the same way. It was sheer luck and scheduling necessity that I'd planned to go early in the morning, thereby barely missing the hordes of people that descended upon the place. Really, guys. Go early in the morning.
