Vannes
The day that I went to Vannes was one of those days where it seemed like nothing could go right. After waking up for my early morning train, I arrived at the station, only to realize that I had forgotten my youth train pass. Left with the alternative of paying more than double for a full-priced fare, I had no other option than to go back to my dorm room and catch a later train. This mix-up meant that I would miss the ferry, and it meant that I wouldn’t be able to go to Belle Île, a small island off the southern coast of Brittany. Because the high season had just ended, public transportation outside of the main train lines was extremely limited. I soon found out that there were also no weekend buses to my back up plan, Rochefort-en-Terre, a flower-filled town that is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. So, I had a nice stroll around Vannes and ate a lovely spur-of-the-moment lunch at one of my first Michelin restaurants ever. Although the morning was as nice as it could have been considering the circumstances, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it had been a day of missed connections. But such is life, I suppose.
