The Farmer's Apprentice
All my travels always feel like a mad dash whirlwind, but none more so than Vancouver. Having forgotten that the West Coast is the only time zone in which I experience jet lag, I found myself unable to sleep more than a few hours at night and unable to nap during the day. Pretty soon, this led to what was probably a case of mild exhaustion. I felt a constant, bone-deep fatigue and ever-persistent nausea, similar to when you wake up much too early and compensate with caffeine that turns your stomach into a pit of seething nerves but does nothing about the gaping pit of energy. This was all shrouded in the cold damp of Vancouver’s rainy season, and the trip turned into a hazy memory with a few meals scattered here and there. One of these meals was at Farmer’s Apprentice, a restaurant celebrating the growers and seasons of the Pacific northwest. For November, this meant one thing: mushrooms. Enjoy.
